The Issue

Graduating from high school is a monumental achievement, not just for the students but for their families as well. For our family, this moment is especially significant as we prepare to celebrate my daughter's graduation. However, the venue selected for the Plantation High School graduation – the gymnasium at Pompano Beach High School – presents a major challenge. This limited-space venue significantly restricts the number of family members and friends who can attend this milestone event.

High school graduations should be inclusive events, allowing ample space for families to gather and celebrate their students' achievements. The current arrangement, unfortunately, does not accommodate the diverse needs and size of many families. By selecting a limited venue, such as a gymnasium, the school is inadvertently excluding many loved ones from participating in this essential rite of passage.

We propose relocating the graduation ceremony to a larger, more accommodating space. Nova Southeastern University (NSU) or the Broward Center for the Performing Arts serve as ideal candidates for hosting this important occasion, both offering considerable event spaces that can comfortably accommodate a larger audience. These venues are fully equipped to handle the scope of our high school graduation needs, providing not only increased seating capacity but also better amenities and a more dignified atmosphere fitting of such an event.

There is precedent for this solution. Many high schools across the region utilize larger venues to ensure no family is left out. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, larger venues enable families and friends to be part of a shared community experience, enhancing the sense of achievement and celebration for graduates.

We ask the administration of Plantation High School and the respective school district to consider the significance of this life event for all our graduates and their families. Relocating the graduation to a more suitable venue will ensure inclusivity, accessibility, and equality for every student and their family.

Help us make this change so every family can fully celebrate this milestone together. Sign this petition to encourage Plantation High School to prioritize accommodating attendees by changing the graduation venue to a location that all families can comfortably attend. Together, we can ensure that every proud moment is shared and cherished with all our loved ones present.
