Keep us safe and stop the hate

The issue

Hey everyone my name is Chloe I’m 19 and I am petitioning to get our laws changed to help get victims of assault the justice they deserve. My father recently got assaulted while riding his bike. He got assaulted at 4 am by a group of young men in a ute.
I have been hearing the stories of our people getting abused and assaulted and I’m sick of the police not giving us the justice we deserve. Let’s stand together and make our communities safer.

I’m petitioning to make these changes:

1. I want more traffic cameras placed in places like estates, alleyways, residential areas and around bus shelters.

2. I want a stronger police presence to solve these cases as too many go unsolved.

3. I want the law to make sure these criminals get the punishment that they deserve as suspended sentences and community service isn’t a proper punishment. It’s also not enough justice for the victims.

4. I want criminal’s under 19 to at least get home detention for their crimes as assault isn’t something that should be committed by this age bracket.

last year (2022) 1,416 young people were put into court for offences. Over 300 of these young people were dismissed, over 700 were proven and discharged, only 313 cases of young people committing crime were convicted of the offences. This is shocking!
it’s not just young people either the crime stats for over 18s is just terrifying.

national party are proposing to reduce crime. The way they want to do this is to put up more cctv cameras in the Waimakariri district. However this is only one community. I do agree with nationals stance on not allowing judges to reduce sentences.  I feel as though our offenders aren’t given the correct punishment for their crimes and nationals proposal is very good.

this is what I want from this petition. I have already mass sent an email to different parliament figures from different areas. I’d like to see our communities to be able to walk freely and go about their day without being attacked.

let’s take a stand and make our communities safer
