It's pretty clear to me that the climate change problem represents an unprecedented evolutionary conflict of interest. Our daily advantageous self-interest involves a destructive side effect whose consequences are time delayed.

The amount of additional energy which has been added to the Earth's oceans in the last half century is equivalent to the energy released from the detonation of 25 billion Hiroshima atomic bombs.

25 billion is a big number. Divide that by the human population of 8 billion and you get 3 atomic bomb detonations worth of energy per human being.

As average American Boomer who was alive during that half century would be responsible for carbon dioxide emissions which add up to > 10 Hiroshima bombs of heat trapping. An average African would be less than 0.5 bombs.

Just as we once went to war to restrict the liberty to own slaves, we must also go to war to restrict the ability to nuke the future.

We need to give up unnecessary emissions from things like jet travel and we need to elect a government which is willing to ration carbon emissions.

They say that the pen is mightier than the sword and I hope it is.

I'm going to war against the liberty to add as much CO2 to the atmosphere as possible. The people who cling to that liberty are on the other side of this war. It's not a personal thing. It's a war against a deadly privilege and the behavior which comes with that privilege. There is no moral system that condones this privilege. It's simply people clinging to a version of the world in which might makes right and money = might. The privilege to pollute must be separated from all the other privileges associated with money. And it's pretty apparent that the people who have the money are not going to surrender this privilege without a fight.

I have kids. Their future is at stake. For me, its uncomplicated. Unfortunately, most adults don't really give a shit about the impact their consumption has on their kids. They are more concerned with maintaining appearances and fitting into their adult social groups. Sadly, that's probably the reason most of them had kids in the first place. To fit into their social groups and have someone to take care of them in their old age.

Guess what ..... our kids may not have an old age to look forward to at the rate we're going. It's sad.
