Why does this issue matter so much more to me than other people ?

It's so hard to digest that the people in charge and the average citizen are so indifferent to the destruction of our only planet's ability to support us.

Are we so addicted to maintaining our place in the class hierarchy that we can't be still and recognize that it's important to relinquish our privilege.

The only reason people are able to get away with gratuitous consumption is because we don't hold each other accountable. Heavy consumers kick people out of their social circle if anyone dares question them. Well, it's time we isolate and criticize the heavy consumers in our midst.

It's going to be a pyrrhic victory if we acquiesce to our parents wishes in order to remain in good standing for an inheritance if we also inherit a broken planet and a collapsed civilization. There are very few calories in a dollar bill. Money is not more important than a planet that can feed its citizens.

Young people, it's time to go toe to toe with friends and family and let your parents and aunts and uncles that there are other ways to enjoy life without having a big carbon footprint.

If each of us resolves to talk to the people we love about this problem, maybe we can make a dent.

Peace,

Rich
