I read a report in the newspaper from an international study on happiness which tells the story of the USA actually being 2 separate countries divided by generation.

Out of 143 countries surveyed, the US was 23rd overall. The lowest ranking ever.

Among people 60+, US citizens ranked themselves 10th globally, while younger people < 30 ranked the US 62nd. This is an extraordinary disparity and a scathing rebuke of American society from young people in the world's wealthiest country.

As a Boomer, I am deeply ashamed of the norms of the generational cohort to which I belong. We have been catered to, spoiled and spared any serious economic difficulty and are arguably the most ignorant generational cohort in human history as a result.

When I speak to my Boomer colleagues about what we have done to the natural systems on Earth which have been remarkably stable and supportive of human civilization for the last 8,000 years, their response is that they are the victims !!!!

The self-entitled, ungrateful and selfish people accuse me of being the bad guy. They tell me that I'm going about things the wrong way, but refuse to identify anyone who is doing this the right way. They attack my character and accuse me of being self-righteous and a grandiose dictator. They tell me I'm mean. And then they stop talking to me. Forever.

So that's the way it goes for a Boomer who knows that my generation's entitled attitude.is at the epicenter of the problem. In order to remain welcome in my Boomer community, I had to commit to a vow of silence about an emerging Holocaust.

I would rather be lonely than be a killer who claims an entitlement to add as much CO2 to the atmosphere as I feel. I would rather be sober than participate in the death orgy of consumption.

I don't know what's wrong with young people that their natural inclination to outrage has been so subdued ? Is it the plastic in everyone's blood or the crappy fast food or social media or technology or is it simply the contrast between what Boomer's have (and won't share) and they don't ?

This gap between Boomers and Gen Z is a sign of a coming revolution.

Young people were the strongest voting cohort for Biden in 2020 and his administration and the Democratic Party give them crumbs. This Administration has greenlighted genocide in Gaza. Young people aren't enthused about voting for a lesser evil.

We're heading into a spiral of fear, fascism and ecological breakdown. And Boomer privilege is at the epicenter of the problem. When it comes to care for young people's experience, there is darkness in our hearts.
