Change Missouri 85% min sentence for first time offenders

The Issue

In the state of Missouri, you have to serve 85% of your sentence before you're eligible for parole if considered a dangerous felon.  The goal here is to reduce that percentage to 50% or less, for first time offenders. Many people go to jail or prison as a repercussion of their actions and I believe that after a certain amount of time, birthdays, & deaths missed- offenders would have had plenty of time to "think" about and "pay" for their actions by serving time. Mass incarcerations are and have been at an all time high. We must stand for injustice and forgive. Injustice is enslaving a human for a mistake for well over what is deserved.  It is a proven fact that longer prison sentences are not beneficial and actually have more negative outcomes for people re-entering into society.  Being incarcerated for a long periods of time people have to learn how to survive and often learn bad habits in order to do so. The justice system has been rigged for quite some time and it is time to change that in the state of Missouri. What if it were your son or daughter? What if it were you?  Everyone deserves a second chance to prove they have learned a lesson and can do better.  Drug dealers drug users, robbers, and even people that plan murders get this chance.  Just because someone is classified as a dangerous felon, does not mean they are not capable of reform and change and don’t deserve the same chance.  Prisons are extremely overcrowded, and in this country are just used as punishment where it should be used as reform to help people become their best self so they can contribute to society.  Instead, they lay in their beds all day and watch TV or learn to become better criminals because they have to.  There need to be more classes available and counseling required with shorter sentences to get these people back where they need to be.  Of course there should be stipulations and guidelines for approval of this early parole eligibility.  Regular counseling and counselor approval, no behavioral violations, so many required courses completed, and a risk assessment done.
