St. Croix Public Libraries are suffering closings too - lack of staffing?

Change the Leadership of the VI Public Libraries NOW! We need library directors (for each library) who are qualified and not appointed based on friendships and campaign promises. Stop politicizing our children's future. 

The following is a description of the position of library director in a small residential community within a government of a state (Massachusetts).

"Description

The Town of Stoneham, a small, residential community just 10 miles north of Boston, is seeking to fill the full-time position of Library Director. The Stoneham Public Library is situated in the heart of downtown Stoneham in a historic Carnegie library building. The library serves a population of over 23,000 residents and is part of the North of Boston Library Exchange regional network.

The Library Director is responsible for the management, direction, and administration of the Stoneham Public Library, including all library services, personnel, policies, outreach, and programs.

"The successful candidate will be a strong communicator able to advocate for the library at all levels of municipal and state governance, an adept multitasker able to juggle and prioritize among competing areas of focus, a capable delegator and manager able to motivate staff to perform at their best, and a problem solver able to think creatively and innovatively about the opportunities and challenges facing public libraries.

Salary: $88,000-$95,000 (annually) with a generous benefits package. Compensation commensurate with education and experience.

RequirementsQualifications:

A Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association is required with a certificate from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in professional library work, including administrative and supervisory responsibility."

The above library director's description is draw-dropping when you think about the current leadership of the VI Public Libraries because administration after administration has failed to take these public services seriously and hire qualified individuals who can lead a staff of librarians and information specialists and who always speaks to the community and engage with the community to increase patronage of these libraries. Who wants to go into a public library and not have qualified staff to help you find a book or use the computer?
