Change how Pokémon products are sold to prevent scalping
The Issue
As a child with limited time and resources, it has become almost impossible to get Pokémon cards for MSRP, which was once a fun and affordable hobby of mine. Today, many children like me face the disappointment of not being able to buy their favorite Pokémon cards at reasonable prices due to the rampant scalping problem.
The fantasy world of Pokémon has captured the hearts of millions over the years, and for children, collecting these cards is more than just a pastime—it's a passion. Unfortunately, the joy of this hobby is being overshadowed by the increasing difficulty of purchasing cards at prices that align with their Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). This is largely due to scalpers and automated bots buying up stock and reselling products at exorbitant prices, making Pokémon cards nearly inaccessible to genuine fans, especially children.
Scalping not only affects children but also impacts parents who find it challenging to afford these markups. The reseller market has forced many fans to pay twofold or more over the MSRP, and it is becoming increasingly clear that change is necessary.
We urge the Pokémon Center and retail partners to implement policies that ensure products are sold at fair prices. Possible solutions include limiting purchase quantities to deter scalping, implementing pre-order systems that prioritize genuine fans, and using technology to detect and block automated bot purchases.
Retailers such as Target, Walmart, and independent game stores can support this endeavor by enforcing stricter purchasing guidelines and collaborating with Pokémon to ensure broader distribution and accessibility.
Children should have the opportunity to experience Pokémon not as a financial burden, but as a delightful hobby that sparks imagination and joy. Let children relive the magic of collecting cards without facing unfair pricing barriers.
By signing this petition, you can help us urge Pokémon Center and its partners to make this dream a reality, allowing children everywhere to continue their Pokémon journey without financial obstacles.
