Change Hawai'i's Flag | Adopt Combined Hawaii & Kanaka Maoli Flag as Official State Flag
The Issue
The state of Hawaii, rich in cultural diversity and history, currently uses a flag that does not fully represent its indigenous roots. For this reason, I have created a new redesign has that integrates the existing official Hawaii flag with the Kanaka Maoli flag. This innovative design incorporates all of the symbolism from both flags, providing a more comprehensive representation of Hawaii's heritage.
The current state flag was adopted in 1845 and features elements of both American and British symbolism. However, it lacks representation for the native Hawaiian population - an integral part of the state's identity. The Kanaka Maoli flag represents this indigenous community but is not officially recognized.
This combined design honors both aspects of Hawaii's history - acknowledging her ties to America and Britain while also celebrating her unique indigenous culture. It serves as a symbol for unity among all residents in Hawaii.
By adopting this combined flag as our official state emblem, we can show respect for all facets of Hawaiian culture while promoting unity within our diverse community. We urge lawmakers to consider this proposal seriously and take steps towards its implementation.
