Think that confederate statues should be removed? How about the flags of the confederacy? WELL.... The flag of the state of Georgia was modified in 2003, with the confederate battle flag "stars and bars" removed. However, this change actually modeled it off of the official flag of the confederate states of america. I am a history teacher and have shown this to my students for years and every year they are shocked that they live in a state that would fly a flag that looks like the one of a country that was formed on the ideas of slavery and oppression, and has continued to fly over our state due to the population not knowing what the flag was modeled off of. Now changing a flag might seem minor to some, but it is a symbol that should not be allowed to continue. A flag is like a statue, a symbol that reminds us all of a time of hate and oppression. Please sign the petition to ask the state legislators to change this symbol, and if they do not act, we will use this petition to create a referendum that will go directly to the voters of the state.
