Change for Florence County Animal Shelter SC in South Carolina

The Issue

These are the faces of dogs who never stood a chance. They were failed by irresponsible owners and a community resistant to change, ultimately ending up at a rural animal shelter on the outskirts of Florence, SC. Their fate within those four walls was no better. Due to outdated practices, limited resources and a lack of empathy, they didn’t make it out alive.

Now, we know about this shelter, and we can’t stay silent. With an alarming euthanasia rate, the reality is that dogs are given only a mandatory 5-day stray hold and no guarantee of time beyond that—regardless of their age, breed or temperament. We need to hold this shelter accountable but we also need to offer practical solutions and support for change.

It’s infuriating, knowing that with more effort and resources, these dogs could have a chance at life. But instead of just frustration, let’s channel that energy into action. We must raise awareness, offer to foster for rescues willing to step in. There will be a weekly email with available animals rescue partners can be added to, but you must act FAST! The dogs deserve more—let’s give them the chance they deserve.

Together, we can help bring change. We can push for a better future and provide the resources and compassion they need to survive. Let’s work together for a brighter tomorrow for these animals.

We encourage local council to take a look at the apparent and alarming issues at their local animal shelter. We urge them to push for better practices, greater accountability, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of animal care. Furthermore, we ask for a proper evaluation on all current employees to ensure they are upholding job standards. Together, we can create a safer, more compassionate community for all animals.
