Change financial assistance in Greenville, Texas

Change financial assistance in Greenville, Texas
The Issue
Financial assistance programs play a crucial role in supporting families, individuals, battered individuals that are facing economic challenges. The current structure of the available assistance programs in Greenville, Texas is not completely addressing the diverse needs of residents. A high number of residents, specifically battered individuals, continue to struggle on receiving financial assistance in the area due to constant limited funding at available organizations or by not meeting eligibility requirements. Moreover, challenges such as limited job opportunities, higher costs of living and negative impacts of domestic violence and sexual abuse hinder financial security for residents. There is a concerning need to reform financial assistance programs in Greenville, Texas due to these concerning situations that residents continuously face.
To address the problem, we propose that additional non-profit organizations be established in Greenville, Texas to offer financial assistance to those who need it. Financial assistance helps the community in several different ways. To address this problem, it will need to be addressed within the city council seeing as though they are the legislative body of the city. There will need to be key goals set to plan for positive outcomes. The information provided must be evidence based to warrant implementation. In one study, it found that in 2012, 21.8 percent of all U.S. families participated in at least one major public assistance program per month (Foster & Rojas, 2018). With that being said it shows many families benefit from these programs.
The core of our strategy is the belief that the establishment of non-profit organizations, with a primary focus on financial assistance, can significantly enhance the quality of life for community members. Hunt County, more specifically, Greenville, Texas, struggles with providing resources that provide financial assistance to battered individuals. These individuals return to their perpetrators because the city lacks resources, thus creating a never-ending cycle for battered individuals. Also, Greenville is in a rural community, and with that comes a stigma relating to rural medical practice. Women in need is a domestic violence shelter for women, with two offices located in Greenville and Rockwall. Without the support of a community, individuals become stuck in the violence cycle and are unable to thrive. Some barriers to mental and financial health care are availability and access. Financial assistance is a big issue for families, but also a lack of mental health care, the cost associated with seeking help, and the stigma it follows. It’s also essential to increase the quality of services with culturally competent providers.
Our goal is to raise awareness about the lack of financial assistance in Greenville, Texas and to encourage the opening of new non-profit organizations in the area that can provide relief for those who are in need. The proposed changes to this issue is crucial for ensuring better access to support community members who face these challenges. We believe that by establishing this goal, we can work towards creating a more equitable community for all. Your support in signing this petition will make a significant difference in improving and increasing organizations that will support those who are impacted by this issue.
