Change electricity utility provider in Cape Coral, FL from LCEC to FP&L

The Issue

After hurricane Ian hit the City of Cape Coral, FL and many other surrounding localities in the SWFL area of this State many found themselves without power for more than 10 days and as of today 10/8/2022 many Cape Coral, North Fort Myers, Sanibel and Pine Island residents are still without power. The affected are ALL of the customers that LCEC services in this SWFL area hardest hit by the most destructive storm in recent history. Even before hurricane Ian hit many saw an increment of more than 24% to their regular monthly electric utility bills and after the hurricane hit the Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) has been deficient in providing above and beyond services, when compared to Florida Power & Light (FP&L), to their account holders by repairing the damaged/destroyed infrastructure in the City in a timely manner and thus causing unnecessary constraint to everyone they currently service. State of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called them out during his press conference on 10/1/2022 asking for LCEC to accept mutual aid in order to expedite repairs and the resumption of regular services to the cities they offer services to. Governor DeSantis Calls on Lee County Electric Cooperative to Accept Additional Mutual Aid to Expedite Power Restoration (flgov.com). At the time, Florida Power and Light (FP&L) had restored power to more than 45% of their accounts in Lee County, while LCEC had only restored power to 9% of their accounts (or +/- 18,000 out of 183,000 customers). With that said WE the residents of the City of Cape Coral, North Fort Myers, Sanibel and Pine Island demand that the Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) be entirely replaced from offering services in our area due to the uninterested/deficient way in which they handled repairs to bring back electricity into the most affected areas of SWFL as it is their duty to accomplish. If a complete Utility Company replacement isn't feasible/possible then at least offer ALL of the residents that LCEC currently provides services to the choice of obtaining services from Florida Power & Light (FP&L) or Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC). We also ask that the Governor of the State of Florida initiates a thorough investigation into the mishandling of repairs and the lack of interest from the part of LCEC to request mutual aid in a timely manner after hurricane Ian.
