Change Competitive Stadium Back to Best of 7

Change Competitive Stadium Back to Best of 7
The Issue
Stadium has helped make this the best year of Overwatch in the game’s nine year history, providing an entirely new way to play.
Despite this being a recent addition to the game, Blizzard Entertainment has made numerous changes to the mode—some that improved it and others that have been detrimental to the success and enjoyment of Stadium.
In Season 18, Blizzard introduced a draft mode with a strict “no mirrors” rule that prevented players from selecting their best or favorite heroes. Players were vocally upset and Blizzard reversed this move within a few days time.
Later that season, it was discovered that players who approached their predicted rank were receiving little to no skill rating for winning games, some of which took 30-45 minutes. Players reported this disheartening issue to the developers on community forums and social media and never received a response. After over a month, multiple patches fixed the issue but players were never compensated for the ranking system failing to properly reward them for their time and skill. This left some players with such a short window of time to climb ranks that they were unable to obtain the Allstar Stadium D.Va skin before the end of season.
On October 14, 2025, Season 19 launched and players logged in to discover that Competitive Stadium had been changed to a best of 5 format, no longer best of 7, to mirror the Quickplay experience. This was a drastic change to the structure of the game mode that Blizzard never mentioned in the Stadium roadmap, developer update or blog post, as previously done with other changes. Players were blindsided in this change that altered the pace and structure of Stadium to a detriment.
Matches currently feel rushed, with little to no time to comb through five tabs of items , powers and gadgets or process what went right or wrong between rounds. Power progression no longer feels earned from round to round. Instead, it feels forced. The sense of strategy or competitiveness has suffered as a result of this change making Competitive Stadium indistinguishable from Stadium Quickplay.
The Stadium playerbase has been overwhelmingly dismayed and put off by what feels like yet another unnecessary change that will detract from the popularity and quality of Stadium. We understand that as developers, Blizzard should always be experimenting with the game but this change represents too much experimentation and too little communication. We respectfully ask that Blizzard look for ways to improve Stadium through new powers, items and heroes, not through turning the most unique competitive mode in Overwatch into something that no longer feels competitive.
