Change Clay Middle School Grading System
Change Clay Middle School Grading System
The Issue
We, the undersigned, respectfully request a change in the grading system used in our educational institutions. The current practice of grading on a scale of 90-10 or 100-0 places excessive emphasis on perfection, resulting in undue pressure and discouragement among students. We propose a shift to a more balanced 70-30 grading scale, where effort and improvement are equally valued alongside achieving high marks. This adjustment would entail 70% of the final grade being determined by tests and assessments, while 30% would account for other factors like participation or homework. It would also encourage more people to do their homework because it can help increase their grade.
The current system often leads students to feel that any minor mistake renders their hard work insignificant, sparking feelings of inadequacy and discouragement. Incorporating this change will ensure that small assignments are not disproportionately weighted, preventing minor mistakes from immensely impacting overall grades. By adopting an equalized approach to grading, we aim to make a positive learning environment that values growth and effort in addition to academic achievement. Thank you for considering our thoughts.
