CASPCA Concerns, a group of over 75 former and current employees and volunteers of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, have exposed the toxic work environment and lack of animal care at the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA shelter. The toxic leadership of Angie Gunter has lead to a mass exodus of employees and volunteers, leaving the remaining dedicated, hardworking employees and volunteers unable to properly care for the animals. The almost exclusive priority on numbers of animals rescued and adopted out has meant that animals are continually brought into the shelter from outside communities, despite the inability to care for them due to staff and volunteer shortages, as well as lack of space. Rather than reducing the number of shelter animals to an amount that can be cared for properly, the shelter boasts of its record rescues and adoptions each year. The board and ED congratulate themselves, while the staff, volunteers and animals suffer. 

The board of the CASPCA has been aware of these issues for years. They have chosen to ignore countless letters detailing workers horrible experiences, as well as their concerns for the animals and their fellow employees. This petition demands the removal of Angie Gunter from working at CASPCA, and from serving on the board. It also calls for the removal of Jenn Corbey as president of the board, due to her continued refusal to act, and the conflict of interest that her friendship with Angie Gunter presents.

If these changes are not made, the animals will continue to face a decline in care, and the shelter will continue to lose what remaining staff and volunteers it has.
