Dear all,

Thank you for your patience! We have been awaiting the outcome of the BABCP board meeting in September. BABCP CEO Tommy Mcllavery has kindly provided this update, which seems to be a step in the direction we were aiming for. So, thank you all for your continued support and sharing of the petition.

The email correspondence is below.

Email from BABCP CEO:

I can now confirm that the BABCP PARC (Practitioner Accreditation and Registration Committee) and Board were in support of the proposal to allow people who meet our criteria to remain accredited or registered and on CBT Register UK and Ireland while resident outside the UK, its territories or Ireland (UK & I).  The proposal applies to BABCP members who are currently on the CBT Register UK & Ireland and to formerly accredited or registered members who can provide both satisfactory evidence that they have been on our Register and meet our Return to Practice requirements.  Members who have never been Accredited or Registered will not be eligible for this process.

In order to mitigate the risks associated with this change to adequately protect the public in line with the proposal made, we are now working to change our annual declaration and application for accreditation/Registration process to specifically ask whether the practitioner does any work when not resident in UK&I; also to ensure it is clear if they are working independently.  This will include (but may not be limited to) asking for a supplementary declaration to be made in relation to appropriate insurance, relevant legislation, clear and overt communication with clients regarding location, and complaints processes. This may also incur an additional fee to cover administration.

We appreciate your patience whilst we safely implement these additional requirements. We will further update you as soon as possible regarding an implementation date. In the interim, we will extend periods of leave of absences beyond the 2-year period, allowing practitioners currently residing outside of the UK, its territories or Ireland (UK &I) to remain on the CBT Register UK and Ireland. Please contact us if this applies to you.

Thanks for your forbearance. Our processes for change are complex but for good reasons. The above decision has been reached after consultation with people with lived experience of receiving CBT, as well as senior clinicians, committee and board members.

Best wishes
Tommy
