Change Alabama's 'One Bite' Dog Law

Change Alabama's 'One Bite' Dog Law
The Issue
My miniature schnauzer and I were attacked in our own backyard by an aggressive pit bull. Despite having warned my neighbors about their broken fence and the threat posed by their dog, they ignored the issue. The pit bull was able to breach the fence, enter my yard, and attack my dog. My schnauzer suffered severe injuries and, tragically, had to be put down two weeks later. Despite this, animal control did nothing to address the situation.
I myself was attacked that day the only thing that saved me was a fence that I was able to jump and place a barricade between myself and the pit. He tried to to get me still after I jumped to escape from him. The only thing that saved me was that a neighbor came to help.
I am devastated over the loss of my best friend. My 13 year old schnauzer had no chance against a 80 pound pit. The fact that we were in our own yard and were attacked. Are you not even safe in your own backyard? The fence is still broken with multiple holes in it and now there are two aggressive pitbull next door. I had to rehome my other schnauzer and I live in constant fear everyday. I live with constant anxiety not to mention the emotional trauma it has caused. Yet nothing has been done . Owners are not being held accountable to fix fence or for any of their actions. This is unexpectable. Animal control did nothing after the pit had blood in his mouth. I can't even be in my own yard. Where is justice for me, my dog or others. Am I to wait for the pit to come back in my yard throu the broken fence again and attack again. Maybe not be so lucky ot maybe attack a child before something is done.
Alabama's 'One Bite' law allows dogs to attack once without consequence, which is unacceptable, especially when dealing with aggressive breeds like pit bulls. Pet owners must be held accountable for the behavior of their animals, particularly when their pets pose a threat to the community. It's not just a matter of safety; it's a matter of justice for those pets and owners who fall victim to aggressive animals.
Animal control agencies should also be held responsible for enforcing standards and responding appropriately to incidents. Allowing a dog to attack once is already one time too many, and permitting a second instance is inexcusable.
I urge the Alabama legislature to re-evaluate the 'One Bite' law and implement stricter measures that hold pet owners accountable for their pet's actions. These measures should include mandatory penalties for owners of aggressive dogs and better enforcement of existing rules by animal control agencies.
Please sign this petition to demand change in Alabama's dog laws to prevent unnecessary tragedies and to ensure a safer environment for everyone.
HELP ME GET JUSTICE FOR JOVI and for others and make a change.
