DCPS needs to pivot to virtual learning for all schools Dec 20-22

DCPS needs to pivot to virtual learning for all schools Dec 20-22
The Issue
DCPS students, staff and parents DON’T WANT COVID for Christmas!
We DON’T want to gift our loved ones the virus!
In Washington DC, COVID cases have soared by 49% in the past week and hospitalizations are up 30%. With the Omicron variant spreading so rapidly, the rates are sure to increase. Parents are getting emails on a daily basis from their children’s schools informing them that an increasing number of students and teachers have tested positive. Many school staff members are in the dark about the number of positive cases and have to hear about it through students or other staff members. We are very worried about the new Omicron variant and the possibility of transmitting the virus to our loved ones over the winter break.
Plus, we are EXHAUSTED and MENTALLY drained. Last year we all learned how to learn virtually. Let’s use this knowledge and technology to keep us safe.
Chancellor Ferebee and Mayor Bowser, save lives and keep people out of the hospital by pivoting to virtual learning for all DCPS schools next week. Let’s come back from the winter break healthy ready for the new year!
