The Issue

Dear Prime Minister,
Across the UK and around the world, women and girls face mounting threats to their safety, rights and opportunities. Violence is rising, hard-won rights are being rolled back, and the essential services women and girls rely on are under severe pressure. Inequality, insecurity and discrimination are still holding far too many back.
A fairer future is possible.
The Government has already made important commitments - to halve violence against women and girls and put women and girls at the heart of foreign policy. These promises matter. Now is the time to turn them into action that changes lives.
In 2027, the UK will hold the G20 presidency. This is a defining opportunity to turn national commitments into global leadership - showing that fairness, safety and opportunity should extend to everyone, at home and around the world.
We urge you to:
- Invest in the services that women and girls rely on. Provide long-term funding for specialist services and women-led organisations in the UK and globally, backed by clear goals and annual public reporting on progress.
- Make every part of government accountable for progress. Every part of government should play a role in preventing harm, addressing root causes and improving safety for women and girls. All departments should report annually on how they are contributing to preventing violence against women and girls, in the UK and globally.
- Use the UK’s G20 presidency to drive practical action. Use the UK's G20 leadership to secure meaningful commitments on gender equality, preventing violence against women and girls, and reforming debt rules so countries can invest in the services and opportunities women and girls need.
This is a chance to show what fairness looks like in action: every woman and girl living free from violence, getting the support she needs, and having the opportunity to fulfil her potential. When women and girls are safe, supported and able to thrive, we build a stronger, fairer society for everyone.
Lead with fairness, invest in prevention, and help build a future in which every woman and girl can thrive.
