Subject: Urging government to free the two Elephants Krishna and Raju from Indira Gandhi Zoological Park Vishakhapatnam.
Under the Gazette notification 2009 issued by Central Zoo Authority no Elephant should be captured and displayed in any zoological parks.
Krishna and Raju are the 2 Elephants captured from the forests of northern Andhra Pradesh. When Krishna was 4 years old he was traumatized, harshly trained and now chained to display, ”FOR NO REASON HE IS BEING IMPRISONED FOR MORE THAN THREE DECADES”,NOT EVEN A SINGLE DAY HE IS FREE OUT OF CHAINS, plight of Raju is also same.
On an average, a female Asian Elephant needs at least an area of 750 sq.km of area and male Asian Elephant needs at least double the area as of the females do, but in Indira Gandhi Zoological park the area of the Elephant enclosure is mere 10acres which is not even a 1% of the area of the as the wild elephants possess, upon that all the time both the Elephants are chained, especially Krishna is chained 24/7, he is made immobile during mast on all four legs. These elephants are captured from the wild, they are leading a stressful and pathetic life which is cruelty and injustice to these innocent animals. We urge the CZA to take immediate action and no more animals must be acquired by the zoo till Krishna and Raju are set free
Hereby, we request the public to strongly oppose keeping these elephants in chains at Indira Gandhi Zoological Park.
