The dust is starting to settle on the final plans.
And notably, local State MP Kat Theophanous has been silent — not a single post or public statement on a policy that will fundamentally reshape the community she represents.
For someone usually prolific on social media, that silence is telling.
It reflects what many already suspect: this is a policy the Government knows is deeply flawed, difficult to defend and out of step with the communities it affects.
We are continuing to engage with politicians across the aisle to ensure that the damage done between now and November's election is limited. We will provide updates on this as they arise.
A NEW PHASE - A NEW WEBSITE
We’ve reached a turning point.
For months, we engaged in good faith — submissions, meetings, evidence, community voice. That window has now closed. The Government has made its position clear, and it is not listening.
This is no longer a policy conversation. It’s becoming a political one.
You’ll see that shift reflected in our updated website. Our focus has moved beyond the Thornbury plans to the program and planning agenda as a whole, because that’s where the real fight sits. If the program stands, Thornbury is locked in. If it falls, we have a pathway to something better.
At this point, it’s hard to ignore where this is heading: November’s election will likely decide the future of our communities.
A PUBLIC EVENT IN THE WORKS
We are in the process of organising a public event for the Thornbury community to explain the final plans and how the many planning changes introduced by this Government will work together to reshape the suburb if the program proceeds.
The aim will be to help people understand not just the maps, but the broader planning framework sitting behind them and what it is likely to mean for Thornbury in practice.
We will need volunteers to help support the event, and we will share further details once the venue and logistics are locked in.
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST – CORFLUTE SIGNAGE
We’re exploring producing corflute signs for supporters to place on fences, in windows or in front yards across Thornbury.
These signs are a simple but powerful way to show visible community opposition and help others realise they’re not alone - it is likely the design will contain a political message against the Government's planning agenda.
Before we commit to the upfront cost, we’re seeking expressions of interest.
Would you be willing to display a sign?
And importantly — how much would you be prepared to contribute to cover production costs?
This will help us determine whether we can move forward at scale.
Please fill in this form if you are interested.
🚨 We STILL need your help
Everything we’re doing — research, public events, media, advocacy and community organising — is being driven by local people who care deeply about Thornbury and Melbourne’s future.
But if this campaign is going to grow, it will need more than concern. It will need people, time and resources.
We are actively looking for:
- volunteers to help across research, communications and events
- people willing to take on a more active role in the campaign
- financial contributions to help fund upcoming campaign activity
If you’ve been following our work and wondering when to get involved, this is the time.
The next phase will matter, and community organisation will be critical.
