Public beach at Idyll Glen

Public beach at Idyll Glen
The Issue
We are the owners of Idyll Glen. We are not in favour of Central Manitoulin's public beach plan in front of our campground and we certainly do not have an agreement with the municipality as suggested in the Expositor's latest article on the subject. This public beach plan, which was conceived last fall without any forewarning and developed without any active input from us, will end up negatively impacting our business. The reasons given for this bad decision were based on false accusations against us. Not one representative from the municipality contacted us to verify that these accusations had any merit. The issues raised by these false accusations could easily have been addressed and debunked before any of these very disruptive decisions were taken. We and previous owners of this campground have traditionally taken care of the beach and shoreline in a custodial manner in exchange for a degree of control of the area, which has over the years become an integral part of the campground’s good functioning. The municipality's plan as originally conceived took away all of our use of the shoreline on which this campground has come to rely since it was created 60 years ago. The plan has apparently been modified, but we have no idea what plan now looks like. We and our campers have spent a lot of money in this community over the years. We feel totally betrayed and abandoned by this municipality. Mindemoya does not need another public beach. It already has six, two of them in walking distance from our campground. This is a waste of tax dollars that could be spent on more deserving projects. We ask the residents, tourists and businesses of Central Manitoulin to sign this petition and to also contact the municipality and ask them to drop their plans for the public beach in front of Idyll Glen.
