In 2030, the Looney Tunes franchise will be having its 100th anniversary. From Bosko to Bugs Bunny, this evergreen series of characters and chaos have entertained millions of people for generations.

Now that the centennial is only a short number of years away, we should share our excitement now. The goal is to convince the executives and artists at Warner Bros. That they should put together a massive multi-year extravaganza showing the world that Looney Tunes is still relevant in mainstream comedy and animation.

For a multi-year celebration of Looney Tunes, here are a few ideas for consideration.

What do fans want to see? A genuine return to form. Anyone working with the characters should be allowed to do what they want while keeping all of their iconic personalities intact. For example, Daffy Duck should still be a screwball. Bugs Bunny can work best based on who is directing the project. The characters should be flexible. Classic pairings, new experimental pairings to see what works. And if characters need to be updated and fine tuned to stay relevant, that should be a priority for characters that have fallen out of the spotlight. Pepé Le Pew, Henery Hawk, Melissa Duck, Penelope Pussycat and several more should all be allowed to be molded based on what the artist wants to do without sacrificing any core traits.

With these general ideas out of the way, here are some suggestions.

The event should be three years long honoring the 100th anniversary of the first Looney Tunes short, “Sinkin’ in the Bathtub” year round in 2030 to June 2033 commemorating the 100th anniversary of when Leon Schlesinger established the Warner Bros. cartoon department.

NEW CONTENT

  • All new theatrical shorts in front of all Warner Bros. theatrical releases. Present the Looney Tunes Cartoons on Max in theaters while new shorts are in production.
  • Plans for a 2D animated / stylized CG animated film. Taking into consideration from the recent film, “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie”, the characters don’t need to crossover as much as any character can carry their own movie with the right ideas and the right amount of characters needed.
  • For TV animation, a brand new 30-minute sketch comedy/variety show using The Bugs Bunny Show (aka The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show or The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show) as a major inspiration.
  • Short-form music videos featuring new arrangements of songs originally picked by Carl Stalling (entering the public domain year after year).
  • Specially produced orchestral and big band albums for digital, vinyl and CD.
  • New documentaries centering around the legacy and history behind the original shorts.
  • Marathons on Cartoon Network, Boomerang and MeTV Toons.
  • An official FAST (Free ad supported TV) channel on Tubi or Pluto showcasing the classic shorts and episodes of the modern spin-offs.
  • For fans and animation experts, a Looney Tunes themed game show with trivia and challenges celebrating the history and fun of the classic shorts and modern takes on the franchise.
  • A consistent plan for new movies every 2-4 years and new TV shows every 3-5 years as anyway to build up hype and avoid audience fatigue.

LICENSING/MERCHANDISING

  • Physical media titles for Blu-Ray, DVD and 4K UHD formats. Collector’s edition sets. How about an ongoing series showcasing every classic short ever released with each set highlighting a single year (1937, 1948) or decade (1940s, 1950s).
  • Video gaming: Looney Tunes in a 3D platformer / sandbox game with a cel shaded look. The gameplay could be similar to what you see in the LEGO video games. It should have mini-games, challenges, collectibles and Easter Eggs celebrating the brand.
  • New novelty clothing, toys, and limited edition collectibles.
  • Limited edition fine art.
  • All new paperback and comic books.
  • Special centennial merchandise.
  • Theme parks can give the Looney Tunes all new attractions and experiences. Including promotional tie ins.

EVENTS/EXPERIENCES

  • Live events. How about a first of its kind Looney Tunes fan convention? An expo that brings fans worldwide to celebrate with screenings, Q+A panels, autograph signings, activities, and more surprises.
  • Museum exhibits
  • Art galleries
  • Interactive pop up events

COMMUNITY

  • An all new social media marketing campaign and refresh on all platforms after the ACME Intern gimmick.
  • Fan art contests.
  • Sweepstakes / giveaways.
  • Promotion of a hashtag like these… #LooneyTunes100, #LooneyTunesCentennial, #LooneyCentennial
  • To keep up with potential demand, Warner Bros. Animation could honor the Looney Tunes centennial by planning an expansion of their studio from Burbank, California to the East Coast. For the community and future artists, a new history museum and working satellite production studio in Atlanta, Georgia. Other potential locations like Tampa, FL, New York, NY, Dallas, TX and Chicago, IL can bring more writers and artists to bring the Looney Tunes and other Warner animated brands to life outside of Hollywood.

And that is definitely all. It is highly encouraged to share some of your ideas when you help sign the petition.

Once Warner Bros. or someone at the company announces a huge commitment with future plans for the Looney Tunes franchise that are encouraging, exciting, and promising, the petition will be a victory. This mission will be ongoing as I hope there is plenty of traction to get plans going by 2028 or 2029. Now with Netflix looking to acquire Warner Bros., we can all hope they can strengthen the presence of the Looney Tunes even further.

I encourage you to please help sign this petition so we can all be a huge part of a big celebration of animation history.
