Cease the Promotion of Santa Claus Myth to Children

The Issue

I have always been uncomfortable with the idea of receiving gifts, a sentiment that has its roots in my childhood. The tradition of Santa Claus, while charming and magical for some, can be misleading and confusing for children when they eventually learn the truth. There is no concrete evidence supporting Santa's existence, yet we continue to perpetuate this myth.

In Lapland, Finland - often considered Santa's home - this illusion is particularly prevalent. However, it's important to consider how this might impact our children when they grow older and realize that a significant part of their childhood was based on fiction.

A study by Lancet Psychiatry showed that discovering such truths could lead to trust issues in children (Lancet Psychiatry 2016). While these effects may not be universal or severe in all cases, it is still something worth considering.

By signing this petition you are supporting an end to promoting the myth of Santa Claus to our children. Instead let us focus on teaching them about kindness, generosity and love which are the true essence of Christmas spirit without resorting to fictional characters. Please sign this petition today!
