Ramallah, Occupied West Bank – israeli forces have shot dead Al Jazeera’s journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Abu Akleh, a longtime TV correspondent for Al Jazeera Arabic, was killed in cold blood, whilst reporting israeli raids on the west bank, before rushed to a hospital in Jenin in critical condition, where she was declared dead shortly after, dying from an israeli bullet to the face. 

israel has violated all international humanitarian laws which protect journalist working in areas of conflict and propagate their right to live. This paramounts to a grave war crime which is punishable under international law. 

The awful news of an israeli sniper directly shooting at a group of journalists and killing journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh has shook the globe. Later on during her funeral procession, her coffin nearly dropped amidst the clash between israeli police and Palestinian mourners.

This is a clear cut case of israel killing a Palestinian journalist in cold blood and refusing to be condemned for their actions.

UN Security Council Resolutions 29 and 1738 condemn the attacks and violence towards journalists. israel has killed more than 50 Palestinian journalists since 2001 but why are they not included in this law? 

This petition is calling for the international condemnation of israel and to hold israel accountable for its repeated violations specifically the targeted assignations of journalists, the latest of which being Shireen. And the substantive sanctioning of Israel under all the international laws which protect journalists in areas of conflict

A UN resolution must be introduced, calling for the cease of all arm's trade with the Israeli defence force, in light of this henious crime.
