Cease Hosting Invictus Games in the UK While Duke and Duchess of Sussex Are Affiliated
The Issue
As a concerned taxpayer, I am deeply troubled by the current situation surrounding the Invictus Games. These games, which were created to support and uplift our veterans, are now proposed to be held in the UK while being associated with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. This association has led to a portion of funds raised from these games going towards supporting their expenses instead of entirely benefiting our veterans.
The Invictus Games were established as an international adaptive multi-sport event for wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel (source: Ministry of Defence). The intention was to use sport as a means to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country. However, it is disheartening that some funds are now being redirected away from this noble cause.
As taxpayers contributing towards these events through public funding mechanisms, we have a right to demand transparency about how our money is spent. We believe that every penny raised should go directly towards supporting our veterans - not covering royal expenses.
We urge those in charge of organising the Invictus Games in the UK to reconsider their association with Duke and Duchess of Sussex until such time they can ensure all funds will be used solely for veteran support. Please sign this petition if you agree that we need change!
