Cease Government Regulations on LGBTQ+ That Interfere with Religious Beliefs

The Issue

This is free petition, monetary donations are not required to sign, but are appreciated.

As a devout Christian, my spiritual path and understanding of the world has been largely shaped by the teachings of the Holy Bible. I value respect, understanding, and acceptance, and fully acknowledge the diversity that shapes our nation. Still, I have come to understand that some government regulations regarding LGBTQ+ rights have been conflicting with the doctrines of various religious beliefs, including my own. It is a concern that the balance between respect for individual freedoms and religious freedom may be tipping towards one side.

The Pew Research Center (2017) reports that nearly half of Americans (48%) say that businesses that provide wedding services, such as catering or flowers, should be allowed to refuse to provide services to same-sex couples if the business owners have religious objections. This perspective underscores the scope of this concern beyond apparent homophobia, pointing to a broader conversation on religious freedoms versus personal rights.

Without a balanced dialogue, the regulations currently in place inadvertently disregard an essential cornerstone of democracy - the freedom of religion. I am not advocating for discriminatory practices, but rather a deliberation that respects both freedoms without infringing upon the other.

Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right that protects the conscience of all people. It allows us to think, express and act upon what we deeply believe. But around the world, and in the United States, this freedom is eroding. Churches, religious organizations and individuals face increasing restrictions as they participate in the public square, express their beliefs or serve in society. But there is much good that Church members and people of goodwill can do to preserve and strengthen religious freedom.

I respectfully urge the government to re-evaluate the existing regulations and initiate an equitable dialogue that respects both LGBTQIA+ rights and religious beliefs. This will create a harmonious society that values and respects the principles of all its citizens. Please stand with us in this journey by signing this petition.
