When Stephen King announced his new book, ‘The Institute’, in early 2019, I marked my calendar right away. For I knew immediately that this was going to be an amazing book. I managed to purchase my copy around three weeks after it hit the shelves. I finished it in less than a week, a personal record for a book that long. Right after i finished the last page, I declared it my new favorite book… and I don’t have a single doubt that I wasn’t the only one. The New York Times even went as far as to say that it might just be “Stephen King’s scariest novel yet”, which I find very true. I believe that this particular book is more thriller than horror, and so I convinced a few friends and family to read The Institute, and even with none of these people being in favor of the horror genre, they all loved it. At some point in time, I did a web search for The Institute, and I found some shocking news. CBS is developing a limited series TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Institute. With David E. Kelly to adapt and executive produce it, and Jack Bender in the director’s chair, I thought that this was good news at first… until I realised that Jack Bender had also been the director behind CBS’s Under The Dome, which honestly has more much more haters than lovers. I personally watched this show, all the way from the premiere to the cancelation… And I pretty much disliked all of it. So, the reason I have made this petition is to ensure that The Institute gets the proper treatment it deserves; that CBS can learn from its mistakes, and handle this title with care.
