A group is circulating a petition to stop teaching Critical Race Theory (CRT) in Carroll County Public Schools (CCPS). However, CCPS does not teach CRT in the classrooms so the group's demand is baseless. We ask that you respond to the following requests, shared by many in the community.

The petition is the latest symptom of a festering problem in our community, racism. We cannot, as a community, deal with the problem until it is recognized that systemic racism exists in the educational system. Devanshi Mistry, the BOE Student Rep., asked for a second time that an action plan be put in place. Listen to her plea. The existing Strategic Plan is wholly insufficient to address the issue, as suggested by Superintendent Lockard. Furthermore, the BOE must commit to its own anti-racism training.

We ask that CCPS continue and deepen its commitment to education that is multicultural and to honor and listen to the voices and opinions of Black, Indigenous and other Persons of Color (BIPOC), especially students, faculty and staff.
