Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety
Oct 27, 2014
"Driving her Honda Accord on Christmas Eve in 2009, Gurjit Rathore, a 33-year-old Virginia mother, was struck in the neck by pieces of an exploding air bag and bled to death in front of her three children, according to a lawsuit filed by her family." -- from today's Washington Post. Honda, Toyota, and other auto manufacturers are scrambling to recall over 7.8 million cars with faulty air bags that can explode and spew shrapnel into the faces and necks of drivers and front-seat passengers. In some cases, people have been blinded or killed. But is CarMax ensuring that the cars it has on its lots right now, that are being recalled due to the exploding air bags, are repaired before selling them to the public? NO. Not only does CarMax fail to get them repaired for FREE, it misleads people by advertising that the cars it's selling are so safe, they passed a rigorous "125+point inspection." Making matters worse, it may take weeks or even months before repair parts are available. So if you buy a car from CarMax and happen to discover that it's being recalled, it may take a long time before you can get it repaired -- meanwhile, your family's safety is at risk. Please help spread the word.
