Petition updateStop selling unsafe, recalled cars to consumers.CarMax sells dangerous cars with same explosive that blew up Beirut

Ignoring public calls to stop endangering lives, CarMax keeps selling dangerous recalled vehicles -- including cars with the same explosive that leveled much of Beirut. It's a highly volatile chemical -- ammonium nitrate. It's contained in tens of millions of vehicles, including many for sale on CarMax's car lots, as a propellant to make airbags inflate in a crash.

Tragically, Takata used the explosive in tens of millions of airbags  installed by Honda, GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Subaru, Mercedes, Nissan and other major manufacturers. It was significantly cheaper than a more stable alternative. Even in low speed crashes, the ammonium nitrate causes the metal canister containing the propellant to burst and shoot shrapnel into the faces, necks, and chests of drivers and passengers, including children.

The recalled Takata airbags continue to cause horrific injuries, including blindness and bleeding to death.

Thank you to the more than 117,000 people who have signed this petition. Together, we will get CarMax to stop putting precious lives at risk by failing to get the FREE recall repairs done before they sell deathtrap cars. Meanwhile, please warn everyone you know -- beware of CarMax!!
