CarMax and other unscrupulous auto dealers are backing a bill in Pennsylvania to allow them to get away with selling dangerous defective recalled used cars. Today, the PA senate passed the bill, HB 1898, despite opposition from the nation's leading auto safety organizations. If the bill passes in the PA House, and becomes law, it would set a horrible precedent for other states.
HB 1898 would allow dealers to sell deathtrap cars to consumers, no matter how unsafe they are, or how many people they injure or kill, if they just slip a copy of the safety recall notice in the stack of documents consumers sign, usually after spending hours picking out a car, test-driving it, and negotiating the price.
