Thank you for being one of the more than 97,000 people who have signed our petition urging CarMax to stop selling unsafe, recalled used cars to consumers. CarMax is still selling cars with lethal safety defects, such as exploding air bags that spew metal shrapnel into drivers and front-seat passengers' faces and necks, or that burst into flames, or with axles that break. But CarMax is clearly feeling the pressure. Since our campaign has caught on, they have started to disclose on their website (in small print, with an asterisk) that "CarMax does not guarantee a recall-free vehicle." Note: they avoid using the word "SAFETY," which might raise some eyebrows about what type of recall they mean. Obviously, that is no substitute for actually ensuring that their cars are safe to drive, from the moment they leave the lot. But at least their lawyers seem to get it that they need to do something, in the face of mounting criticism over their shady business practices.
