Carlow Residents As a Priority

Carlow Residents As a Priority
The Issue

Carlow students were recently informed that students from the University of Pittsburgh are moving on to our campus to occupy Dougherty Hall starting in the Fall of 2022, which would segregate Carlow students to the Francis Warde Hall side of the sole dormitory Carlow has dedicated to its’ students.
This news was given to Carlow students on Monday March 21st. For the upcoming fall, the dorm deposits are due April 1st, 2022, providing students with extreme short notice without prior communication from the school, leaving many students unsure of their upcoming living situation.
Carlow has made this decision without student body consultation or deliberation.
This has left students with disabilities, accommodations, and others concerned and distressed about their living situation and housing security.
Carlow University is limiting their students’ boarding options after years of stressing the value of the students wants, needs, and concerns. Seniority and accommodations are not being taken into consideration by Carlow, leaving many students scrambling to find new living situations for the upcoming semester.
As Carlow students, we expect our voices to be heard and our values to be considered and carried out by the school, along with the necessary course of action to be taken for the students’ best interest and well-being. Carlow is asking us to share our limited resources with other students who have plentiful resources through the University of Pittsburgh at their disposal.
With Pitt students coming onto our small private campus, the Carlow community will be affected in numerous ways. This is not only a threat to our education, but also to the historical value of our sacred campus, which students uphold because of the community culture on campus.
Segregating the Carlow students to Frances Warde will not only have an impact on the community life of the students, but the overall synchronicity of the students and their day to day lives.
We will not let the quality of Carlow University be diminished without the student body’s voices being heard, taken into consideration, and for our best interest to be accounted for the way we defend and care for our education and campus.
