Hi all,
Thank you for your continued support. The petition will break 5k signatures today, which is a number I never expected to hit. I thought the original 1k goal was ambitious.
We heard from the University today. Per the email, sent by the President:
"The Academic Continuity Committee is currently looking at a number of pressing issues, notably alternative grading options for students, tenure and promotion deferrals for faculty, and options for the postponement of spring Convocation. These decisions will involve consultation with other groups such as Senate and our unions but we will provide clarity on these issues as soon as possible."
Now is the time to make your voice heard. The calls for unprecedented academic accommodations must reach a new tenor today. I am imploring you to email vpstudents@carleton.ca and provost@carleton.ca with your view of how the University ought to accommodate students. I strongly recommend referencing UOttawa's FSS policy, which gives students the choice between:
a) not writing any finals and taking pre-exam grades as final
b) writing finals and then receiving the higher of pre- and post-exam grades
c) taking courses on a pass/fail basis
We are so close to achieving an equitable grading policy. There needs to be a final push to get Carleton over the proverbial finish line. And, as always, please share this with your friends.
Charlie
