Cardinal Nichols and Bishops: Tell Boris Johnson, 'Never again will Mass be banned!'

Cardinal Nichols and Bishops: Tell Boris Johnson, 'Never again will Mass be banned!'

The Issue

On December 3rd 2020, Prime Minister Boris Johnson allowed public worship to start again in Tiers 1-3.

But on December 19th, he introduced a Tier 4. Tier 4 still allows for public worship - for now. But for how long? And what about possible future Tiers 5, 6, or who knows what else?

Who gave Mr Johnson the right to decide when and how God can be worshipped? And why did God and his Holy Catholic Church have to wait for four weeks in the last lockdown before being ‘allowed’ to offer the Holy Mass?

If Mr Johnson can give permission for public Mass, can he decide to ban it again?

Cardinal Vincent Nichols recently spoke out about a Government reduction of foreign aid from 0.7% to 0.5% of national GDP.

As Cardinal Nichols has shown that he is willing to speak out against the Government, we call on him and each Bishop of England and Wales to tell Mr Johnson clearly: Never again!

Never again will Bishops accept the state banning public worship.

Never again will they accept other such state interference in the Church’s mission and life.

Never again will they accept baptism – necessary for salvation! – being outlawed by the state.

Never again will Bishops accept the Catholic faithful being deprived of the grace of Holy Communion.

Never again will they allow them to be banned from leaving their houses to confess their sins.

Never again will they allow even hints that the dying will be deprived of the last rites because they are in a quarantine.

And never, ever again will Catholic churches close their doors even for private prayer at the order of the state.

Never again!
