Safety-Net Policy for All

The Issue

The 'no-detriment' policy Cardiff University has released promises 'no student will be disadvantaged' by circumstances due to Covid-19, yet for non-final year students fails to offer any concrete measures to do so, apart from the fact that they will update the policy in future years, and any measures that have been implemented have not been uniform across all academic schools.

The current situation is unprecedented and is affecting everyone, therefore those non-final year students, who are completing modules that will contribute towards the final classification of their degree, deserve the same security and peace of mind as those graduating this year.

We deserve a concrete policy this year so that our mental health is not suffering under the pressure that our grades this year may be negatively affected by having to work under unprecedented, unusual and, for many, challenging conditions.

Why have Cardiff University not done this when many other universities (including but not limited to the Universities of Exeter, Leeds, Liverpool, Plymouth, and York) already have? Why have they not shown the same amount of commitment to the mental well-being of their students as these universities have?

Sign this petition to demand that ALL students, regardless of academic year or school, should have the same policy applied to them as to final year students - that an average grade from marks before March 16th 2020 is calculated and the student will receive no lower than that mark for this academic year, which will then contribute to degree classification in future years.

Cardiff University should be be better looking after our peace of mind during the difficult circumstances of this exam period.
