Save the Gaiety building on City Road from demolition

The Issue

Since its closure in 2006, the former Gaiety cinema in Cardiff has been subject to plans of demolition multiple times, but no to avail. In October 2020 it was announced that the site would be repurposed as a temporary car park, and later demolished in order to build new, private student accommodation. Despite objections from local residents, the building has been granted planning permission for developers.

The iconic old cinema (most recently a bowling alley) was first opened over 100 years ago in 1912. City Road is a busy and vibrant part of the city and since the recent plans to demolish the Roath Park pub, it is seriously lacking in its original, historic buildings.

This petition seeks to put an end to the over-development of Cardiff. The Gaiety building is a unique part of Cardiff's history and should NOT be demolished. SAVE THIS BUILDING FROM DEMOLITION.
