Car parking fees. Think again, WBC.

Car parking fees. Think again, WBC.
The Issue
As a member of Bromborough Village Community Association, I represent the shops and businesses in Bromborough Village, which are facing the introduction of parking charges at their village car park. This policy, recently announced by the Wirral Borough Council, has been implemented without fully appreciating the different impacts such charges will have on the adjacent shops and businesses.
Our community is built on the support of small businesses that rely heavily on foot traffic and easy accessibility. Implementing parking fees in areas like ours could lead to a reduction in customers visiting local shops, potentially resulting in significantly decreased revenues for small business owners. A blanket policy does not consider the unique dynamics and needs of communities like Bromborough Village, where parking availability without charge is crucial to sustaining economic vitality.
Business owners and residents alike should have a voice in policies that will directly affect their livelihoods and daily lives. While the intention to increase council revenue is understood, it’s imperative to consider alternative approaches that do not threaten the existence of local businesses that make our borough vibrant and thriving.
We urge the Wirral Borough Council to engage with local businesses, conduct comprehensive impact studies, and explore alternative methods that can adequately support both the council’s financial needs and preserve the economic health of communities like Bromborough Village.
Your support is crucial. Stand with us in urging the council to reconsider their approach by signing this petition. Together, we can ensure that any policy enacted considers the welfare of local businesses and the broader community.
