The new 2017 Cape Cod National Seashore Compendium is ready, and just in time to reinstate the kitesurfing ban in time for March 15 when threatened and endangered shorebirds return to our beaches. But in response to our litigation and the subsequent public comment period we have been allowed year round ocean access at a stretch of beach between Nauset Light and Coast Guard beach in Eastham! It's a small victory from a retiring Superintendent who refused to have a dialogue with us for 8 years. That in itself is a victory and it couldn't have been done without the support and input from all of you! And here's hoping it's just a beginning and that it will pave the way for allowing us more access at similar areas in other Outer Cape towns under the guidance of the Seashore's new Superintendent.
Thank you to everyone who signed my petition, submitted your comments to the National Park Service, and provided me with the spiritual support I needed to go up against our federal government and the US National Park Service. We've regained 1 3/4 mile year round kitesurfing access along the Cape Cod ocean and acknowledgement that kitesurfing and wildlife conservation can coexist!
I'll share the press release once it's published.
Thank you all!!
