Cap the Cost of Car Insurance for New Drivers

Cap the Cost of Car Insurance for New Drivers
The Issue
As a parent of three young adults, I have seen firsthand the exorbitant costs of car insurance for new drivers. Two of my children were quoted over £6000 for a year's insurance - an amount that is simply unaffordable and unjustifiable. This situation is not unique to us; many young adults across the country are struggling to afford their own vehicles due to these inflated insurance costs.
The average cost of car insurance for new drivers has skyrocketed in recent years, with some premiums exceeding the value of the cars they are meant to insure. For instance, it's not uncommon to see an annual premium as high as £6000 on a car worth less than £2000. This discrepancy is not only unfair but also unsustainable.
Insurance companies seem to be taking advantage of new drivers by charging them excessively high rates without any cap or limit. While it's understood that younger drivers pose more risk due to their lack of experience, this should not justify such disproportionate charges.
Not all young adults are reckless drivers and should not be penalised until proven otherwise. The current system hinders their ability to save up for their future as they're forced into paying considerable amounts just for insurance.
We urge lawmakers and regulators in our country to intervene and impose a cap on how much insurers can charge new drivers per year. This would make owning a vehicle more affordable for our youth, enabling them better opportunities in life.
Please sign this petition if you believe in fairer car insurance rates for our young adults!
