Cancel Unlikeable Velma

The Issue

HBO Max does not seem to care one whit about what audiences do, and do not, want to see on the platform.  Therefore, it's time for us to speak-as-one and take a stand against the hateful and divisive show called Velma!

Who is impacted?

As a viewer, I am troubled by the show's use of language that is divisive and hurtful to certain groups based on their race, gender and more.  The Velma Show has repeatedly used derogatory language under the guise of comedy.  However, most who watch the show understand the serious presentation of these ideas contributes to a culture of hate, regardless of political persuasion.

Furthermore, the show's content is often designed to create division among its audience, which only serves to deepen the divides that already exist in our society. This is particularly troubling given the current state of our culture and the need for unity and understanding.

Therefore, I am urging HBO Max to take action and cancel the Velma Show. As a responsible media outlet, they have a duty to ensure their content is inclusive and respectful towards all.  By canceling the Velma Show, they will be sending a clear message that hate and division will not be tolerated.

Why is now the time to act?

HBO Max just cancelled a show called "Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Pups", a show created for pre-school aged kids. While also continuing to develop season 2 of Velma, an adults-only show that has received some of the worst ratings for a show ever.

- Current Ratings:

  • Rotten Tomatoes: 7%/100% Audience Score, 10k+ votes
  • IMDB: 1.5/10, 71k votes

This proves that HBO Max does not care how Scooby-Doo is "reimagined".  Nor do they care about customer feedback.  They are using this beloved IP as a coat of paint for an ugly, mean-spirited  show.

Following the cancellation of Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Pups, and while Velma season 2 is still in development, now is the time to act!

What is at stake?

The future of entertainment itself! This may sound grandiose, but it's true. Hollywood must understand we no longer want our hard-earned dollars used to create this brand of "entertainment".  As many have said before "we just want an escape".  We do not want insulting and mean-spirited content like Velma.

Velma does one thing very well; it unifies people from all sides in our disdain.  Resulting in a perfect opportunity to come together and push Hollywood in a more positive and unifying direction.

Consequently, HBO Max, and Hollywood in general, have decided that the customer no longer matters. That insulting people in shows, movies, and on social media are acceptable business practices.  That they are immune from accountability for their messaging.  We must prove to them that this is no longer the case.  That we will speak as one voice and close our wallets to them.

Thank you for joining me in this endeavor!
