Cancel the proposed schedule and route changes to City of Whitehorse Transit

The Issue

On June 8th, 2022 the City of Whitehorse announced that starting on July 1, the existing routes and schedules would be changed.

Yukon University, City Hall, and the Canada Games Centre have now become "transfer hubs" with service on all routes focused entirely around these three locations, making it difficult to plan a trip going anywhere else. It also adds unnecessary transfers, with both longer trips and wait times.

Service for the neighbourhoods of Lobird, Raven’s Ridge, and Kopper King will be changed from regular service to on-request service only, which requires residents to email or phone transit to make a request for a bus to pick them up.

Weekend service has also been cut back, with some routes starting 45 minutes later than before. This change makes it impossible to get downtown any earlier than 9am on Saturdays or Sundays from certain neighbourhoods.

Feedback on the linked Facebook announcement has been overwhelmingly negative, and it's clear that the City of Whitehorse has not listened to what regular transit users have to say.

This petition asks that the city cancel the proposed changes so that the schedules can be reworked with additional public feedback.

Additional information about the proposed changes can be found on the city's website.
