The Issue
As a Foundational Black American, I have witnessed time and again how our liberation is perpetually overlooked, often overshadowed by allocations and recognitions given to other ethnicities and organizations. It is time for us to demand our rightful place in discussions and policies that directly impact our community.
To address this ongoing issue, I call upon the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to create a formal, public Foundational Black American (FBA) policy agenda. Such an agenda is crucial for ensuring that the voices of Foundational Black Americans are heard and our specific needs are addressed. Without a formalized agenda, there can be no concrete commitments, rendering the accountability process ineffective.
The creation of an FBA policy agenda by the CBC will establish a framework that directly addresses the economic, social, and political challenges faced by Foundational Black Americans. This agenda would prioritize issues unique to our community, such as reparations, educational reform, criminal justice reform, economic empowerment, and healthcare access—issues vital to our progression and well-being.
Evidence shows that targeted policies yield significant positive impacts. For instance, research indicates that racial health disparities contribute to at least $93 billion in excess medical costs and $42 billion in lost productivity annually in the United States, emphasizing the urgent need for focused healthcare reforms for black communities, specifically FBAs.
Moreover, a dedicated FBA agenda will empower our community by promoting economic empowerment through increased funding for black entrepreneurs. Statistics reveal that minority-owned firms employ more than 8 million people and generate an additional $1 trillion in economic activity, highlighting the importance of supporting black businesses to foster community growth.
Therefore, I urge the Congressional Black Caucus to take immediate action by creating a public and formalized Foundational Black American agenda. This shall serve as a beacon for accountability and tangible progress within our communities.
