Cancel Student Debt or Student Loan Interest

The Issue

For the past two years, we have been dealing with a world-wide pandemic that has brought many things to light for me and so many others living in the United States. One of those things brought to light, was the crippling student debt of so many hard-working U.S. Citizens who are forced to live paycheck to paycheck by a nation that cares more about the elite lining the pockets of politicians than the lower-middle to higher-middle class citizens who were deemed "essential" in keeping the nation running in a time of crises.

Decades ago, hard-working Americans were able to survive on one income. Today, we are fighting to be paid enough just to be able to afford our life-saving medications and feed our children without the fear of becoming homeless, and this is all because of coporate and political greed. Nobody bats an eyelash when a CEO gives himself a 20 million dollar raise, but when the middle class asks for the same we are all of a sudden given crippling inflation rates in an already impossible position. When is America going to give the working-man a break? We're essential yet we are treated like we're disposable - because we ARE disposable in the eyes of our employers (the same CEOs that are making a profit off of our labor).

I preface with this, because in the last two years we have been given forgiveness in regard to paying back our student loans and acruing interest which has greatly helped me as well as many others. I, myself, owe 86k in student loan debt. I worked all through college and also had a scholarship for half of the tuition costs but still ended up with crippling debt because of insanely high tuition rates that so many people, decades ago, did not have to deal with. I was told my entire life that I HAD to go to college or I would live in poverty. I'm 33 now, and if I had just continued working straight out of high school without attending university, I would already own my own home. Now, I can't even get a home loan because of my student loan debt (that is in good standing by the way). What we were told, was a lie. It was a lie to fuel the ever-growing greed of universities and coporate America.

I petition that all student loan debt be forgiven because the way that things are going we are going to have serious problems in the very near future with our "essential" work force. People are waking up. If student loans cannot be forgiven, then I propose all interest acrued be forgiven because it is the interest, if anything, that is making it hard for us to pay off our debt.

If you would like to see change happen, then please sign this petition. We need to show our politicians just how many people want this change. We cannot make things better by staying silent.
