The Issue

Our community is at its best when we look out for one another. While fireworks are a traditional part of summer celebrations, the decision to host a rescheduled display on July 12th—long after the 4th of July has passed—raises concerns regarding our community’s safety, fiscal responsibility, compassion, and the environmental impact.

Please Sign this petition & join in asking city officials to reconsider the July 12th fireworks for the following reasons:

1) Compassion for our Veterans: Many veterans in our community struggle with PTSD, for whom unexpected, loud pyrotechnics can trigger severe flashbacks and anxiety.

2) Care for people with Autism & Sensory Processing or Auditory Disorders: Fireworks displays routinely exceed 140–150 decibels—louder than a jet engine at takeoff. For people with autism, misophonia, or sensory processing disorders, this sudden, unpredictable noise can cause severe distress.

3) Safety for our Pets: Local veterinary experts, including those from the American Veterinary Medical Association, warn that fireworks often lead to extreme fear, injury, and trauma in animals.

4) Save Taxpayer Money:  Since we've seen fireworks from surrounding neighbors and communities several times already, save Lakeville's fireworks for next year’s festivities, which also helps save taxpayer money.  If funds are already allocated in 2027, those funds could be better redirected toward local veteran support programs, animal shelters, or the costs associated with increased emergency calls for lost pets, fires or community needs.

5) Environmental Impact & Cleanliness: Fireworks leave behind significant debris, including heavy metals and chemical residue that contaminate our air and local waterways. Furthermore, residents are often left to deal with the litter and fallout scattered across our streets and green spaces long after the show ends.

6) Public Safety & Fire Risk: With summer heat and dry conditions posing a constant threat, the risk of accidental fires is significant. Adding an unnecessary fireworks display increases the danger to our homes, public parks, and natural spaces.

We are all thankful for the holiday and will have enjoyed a full week of celebrations with Pan-O-Prog. Let’s cancel yet another firework display and prioritize safety, compassion, peace and wise spending in Lakeville.

If you agree, PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION below to urge Lakeville officials to cancel the July 12th Fireworks display. Next, SHARED THIS PETITION with all of your friends, family, and business owners—whether they live or work in Lakeville.

Thank you for your kindness and for helping us make Lakeville a more thoughtful, safe, clean place to live.
