Flock traffic cameras are all over Macomb County currently. Now, with Oakland approving AI drone surveillance, it’s only a matter of time before it gets to Macomb, unless we have something to say about it.
This company, Flock, is privately funded by co-founder of Palantir, Peter Thiel, and is at the forefront of turning our county into a surveillance state. Thiel is in charge of the current surveillance used for ICE that has falsely identified people and been misused by law enforcement to antagonise citizens. If contracts with Flock continue to be signed by local governments and we do not stop it. Soon Garrett Langley (CEO of Flock) and Peter Thiel will have majority control of all of our surveillance systems across the country. Also the will have the power to build profiles of data on everyone that THEY OWN, not the counties involved. This includes profiles for children and data about your kids THEY KEEP…
A privately owned company should not be able to track anyone, anywhere in the country, and then sell that data to the highest bidder. There is no oversight or regulation on how this data is used.
Flock cameras rely on AI to automate policingand it often makes mistakes. In several cases the AI software has misread plates, causing innocent people to be fined, arrested, and in one case, get mauled by police dogs.
Flock cameras are easily hacked and misused. There have been cases where criminals have used the technology to stalk and harass people.
What has been marketed as a tool to stop crime, is actually a blatant violation of the 4th Amendment, and is bringing more dangers to our communities.
The best part? Our tax dollars are funding it. A contract for 70 cameras costs upwards of $1 Million.
Our privacy, our streets, and our trust in local government are at stake. Sign to protect Macomb County residents from mass surveillance and to stop Flock from taking away our freedoms.
