Kwey, Bill S-3, An Act to Amend the Indian Act (the elimination of sex-based inequities in registration) as it was passed and adopted in the House of Commons on December 4, is a version that does not eliminate all the sex discrimination. Earlier the Senate put forward a version of the Bill that contained the “6(1)a All the Way” clause that would resolve all the pre 1951 and post 1951 sex discrimination. But on November 7th the House of Commons, through the government representative Senator Peter Harder removed this clause and offered a clause that said the matter would be resolved sometime in the future. This concession was then accepted by the senate. On December 4th in the House of Commons the NDP did table a motion regarding a specific date but this was rejected. To learn more read this ...
