We received a new letter from a senior Canada Post executive. In attempting to explain why no information was released in response to our Access to Information request, he unintentionally made a major admission that confirms exactly what our community has been worried about.

Canada Post has now acknowledged that the decision to close our Vic West postal outlet was made with no written analysis, no market review, no community impact assessment and no documented due diligence of any kind.

No report, no study, no justification. Only a verbal decision made during an internal virtual meeting.

For a Crown corporation that reports massive national losses, this raises serious concerns about how decisions are being made and why outlets like ours that are cost neutral and profitable for Canada Post are being shut down.

This new information will now form part of the investigation by the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada.

Because of how serious and revealing these admissions are, we will be releasing a full public update on Monday. That update will include key excerpts from the correspondence, clear contradictions in Canada Post’s position, and the next steps we will be taking.

Tonight the message is simple.

Our community was right to demand transparency.

Canada Post’s own statements now confirm that this closure was made without the basic due diligence Canadians should expect.
